Lot 14, Silva Park is a 1000 m2 parcel of land in a prominent position perched on the high side of the street with views over untouched landscape in the distance. The estate’s philosophy encourages passive design and sustainability. The owners are a young couple who have requested modest family home with small office. The initial Concept Design has evolved around discussions about the journey of both the owners, one of which is a keen cyclist, and visitors to the house and the need for efficient planning. By creating flexible multi-purpose spaces, the floor area has been reduced which will be reflected in lower building costs. By building on the high side of the site we have maintained views yet provided a level change from the street creating a buffer to outside world. The simple floor plan comprises an open plan living/dining/kitchen area with utility spaces such as laundry and mud room. The office has been separated from the house proper via the main entry which also doubles up as an outdoor room with pool. The upper level is in the form of a long narrow box comprising of three bedrooms, ensuite and bathroom. All bedrooms take advantage of the views and future pool/entertainment area below. The design incorporates contemporary architecture with a hint of modernism creating an individualised dwelling that sits in harmony with the site whilst spatially reflecting the needs and requirements of a young family.
