Tarcoola
This new home has the advantage of being located on an elevated site with river views. In order to maximize access to these views required strong design, angled elements of stone were used to frame views and ground the elevated building within its surroundings. This sense of “grounding” with stone was an important aspect of the clients’ brief, and has been balanced with lightweight, timber and metal-clad upper levels seemingly floating above the heavy base. In order to achieve a complex variety of spatial requirements on this Small Lot it was critical to spread the program of spaces over three levels. Adults’ living and children’s quarters are located on the same level, but splay out in opposing wings across the site, allowing for privacy and connection, whilst maintaining security and supervision.
